Clothes that mean something, worn more than once.
A bridal lehenga is worn for one day and kept for thirty years. A sherwani, a hanbok, a cheongsam, a kaftan: the most expensive things in a wardrobe are the ones that come out twice a decade. CultureCloset is where they are bought and sold between the people who own them.
What this is
A marketplace for cultural and occasion garments. Members list what they own. Other members buy it, new or worn once. We are not a shop and we hold no stock: every garment on here belongs to somebody, and most of them to somebody in your city.
It began with a simple thought: the most beautiful clothes people own are the ones they wear least, and somebody nearby is looking for exactly that outfit for exactly that occasion. An idea came, and here we are. The app knows the calendar those occasions sit on.
How it works
You tell us your event date first, before anything else. A garment that cannot reach you in time is never offered to you, and the delivery estimate carries a day of slack on purpose.
You pay when you buy, and the seller is paid once it has reached you. Every listing carries the seller's own photographs and their measurements in inches, because a size letter means something different in every wardrobe it came from.
What it costs to use
Why anybody would post something irreplaceable
Because the protections are real and they are checked before the parcel moves. Every garment is photographed before it is sent, and those photographs decide any dispute rather than one person's word against another's. A parcel worth insuring travels insured and signed for. A seller is paid after the garment has arrived, not before.
Read the terms and the cancellation policy. They are written to be read.
What we do with what we know about you
We do not sell your data to advertisers and we run no retargeting. We do not store your identity document. The privacy policy says exactly what we keep and why, including the two things we do keep from an identity check and the reason for it.
Where we are
CultureCloset is built and run from Lombard, Illinois, in the United States. It is early, it is small, and the fastest way to change it is to write to us.
If you have a wardrobe full of these
Listing one takes about ten minutes, and the garment stays in your house until somebody buys it. List a garment or see what is on here.
